## Status: published ahead of launch

Portal billing is **not live yet**. These plans are published so teams can plan
ahead before billing starts. Three things follow from that:

- The Public Portal keeps today's limits until launch.
- Paid plans are not self-serve yet. They are available through early access at https://calendly.com/t-tyrie-subsquid/30min.
- When billing goes live, every account gets 14 days' notice first.

Treat every price below as the published intent for launch, not as a charge
that can be incurred today.

## Billing model

- Portal (data access) and Cloud (compute) are **separate line items**. Using one does not require the other.
- Portal is a **flat monthly price per plan**. It is not usage-metered.
- There are **no overage charges** and no hard cutoff at the data allowance. See "Past the allowance" below.
- Never billed for: compute units, credits, per-request fees, egress fees.
- Cloud is billed per hour of actual usage.

## Portal plans

| Plan | Price | Max backfill throughput | Monthly data | Included chains | Notes |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Public | $0 | 0.1 MB/s | ~50 MB/mo | All (Exploration only) | - |
| Testing | $0 | 0.5 MB/s | ~1 GB/mo | 1 (Evaluation only) | - |
| Starter | $99/mo | 5 MB/s | 25 GB/mo | 1 (1 maximum) | - |
| Growth | $499/mo | 20 MB/s | 400 GB/mo | 3 (5 maximum) | 30-day free trial |
| Enterprise | Custom | Uncapped | Uncapped | 10 (No maximum) | Annual contract |

The three levers that separate plans are **backfill throughput**, **monthly data
allowance**, and **included chains**. Latency is deliberately not a lever: on
chains with real-time data, every plan, including the free ones, streams to the
chain head.

## How each dimension works

### Backfill throughput

The ceiling on how fast historical data streams to you. It governs how long a
backfill takes, not whether you can access a chain, and it is the value that
is rate-limited once you pass the monthly allowance.

### Monthly data allowance

Measured **uncompressed**, as the data lands in your process. The allowance is
per billing month and resets at the start of the next one.

Past the allowance, nothing shuts off and nothing is charged automatically.
Backfill throughput is rate-limited for the remainder of the month, real-time access
continues on chains that have it, and the full rate returns next month. To stay at full speed, add a
data extension for that month:

| Plan | Included | With extension | Extension price |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Starter | 25 GB | 275 GB | $99 |
| Growth | 400 GB | 650 GB | $99 |
| Growth | 400 GB | 1 TB | $199 |

Extensions are added by the customer for the current month and are never
applied automatically.

### Chains

A **chain is one canonical ecosystem**, not a single network or dataset. Its
mainnets, testnets, dataset versions and data types all count as one chain.
Ethereum plus its testnets is one chain; Hyperliquid's HyperEVM and HyperCore
together are one chain.

Each plan has a chain ceiling:

- **Starter** includes one chain and cannot add more. A second chain means Growth.
- **Growth** includes three chains and can add two more, for five total. Extra
chains are priced per chain per month by network tier.
- **More than five chains** requires **Enterprise**, which includes ten with no
maximum. Enterprise chain pricing is set in the contract.

Extra-chain prices for Growth, by network tier:

| Network tier | Price per extra chain | What it covers |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Core | $150/mo | The chains most teams build on: Ethereum, Solana, Base and the major L1s and L2s. |
| Partner | $50/mo | Networks whose teams fund the integration. |
| Frontier | from $300/mo | Newer networks and custom VMs, each with its own integration. |

### Real-time

Not every chain has real-time data. Where a chain does, every plan streams to
the live head via hot blocks, in a single stream with no separate archive tier,
with history back to genesis on most chains. There is no artificial delay on
lower tiers and no latency upgrade to buy. Which networks are real-time is
listed at https://sqd.dev/chains/.

## Add-ons

| Add-on | Price | Available on | What it does |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Extra Partner chain | + $50/mo | Growth only | Networks whose teams fund the integration. |
| Extra Core chain | + $150/mo | Growth only | High-demand mainnets like Ethereum, Solana and Base. |

### Mechanics behind those rows

- **Monthly data**: Measured uncompressed, as the data lands in your process.
- **Data extension**: Adds full-speed data for the current month. Add one when you need it; nothing is charged automatically.
- **Past the allowance**: No overage charges and no cutoffs. Backfill throughput is rate-limited for the rest of the month and resets with the next one; real-time access continues. Add a data extension to stay at full speed.
- **Production use**: Public and Testing are for development and evaluation. Commercial production use starts with Starter.
- **Parallel requests + SDK**: The typed SDK works on every plan, no API key needed on Public. Speed scales with your plan, so Public is for prototyping and short ranges.
- **Real-time + history**: Where a chain has real-time data, every plan streams to the live head (hot blocks) in one stream with no separate archive tier. The chains page shows which networks are real-time. History reaches back to genesis on most chains.
- **Chains included**: A chain is one canonical ecosystem, such as Ethereum or Solana. Its associated mainnets, testnets, dataset versions and data types count as one chain.
- **Add extra chains**: Growth includes three chains and can add two more, priced per chain per month by network tier: Partner $50, Core $150, Frontier from $300. More than five chains requires Enterprise, which includes ten; Enterprise chain pricing is set in the contract.
- **Traces & state diffs**: Open on the keyless Public plan for prototyping. A per-chain add-on on Starter and Growth for production volumes; included on Enterprise.
- **Uptime SLA**: Covers mainnets. Testnets are best-effort with no SLA.

## Choosing a plan

Deterministic rules, in order:

1. **Evaluating, no commercial use.** Use Public (no API key, every chain, rate
limited) or Testing (API key, one chain, more throughput). Both are free and
   for development and evaluation only.
2. **Anything in production** starts at Starter.
3. **Pick the plan by whichever dimension is largest.** Take the highest plan
required by your throughput, your monthly data, and your chain count
separately, then choose that plan. The other dimensions come along with it.
4. **Chain count.** One chain fits Starter. Two to five chains need Growth:
three are included and up to two more are added at the network-tier price
above. More than five chains need Enterprise.
5. **One heavy month?** Add a data extension instead of upgrading. Accepting the
   rate limit costs nothing.
6. **Need traces or state diffs?** Add-on per chain on Starter and Growth,
included on Enterprise, open on Public for prototyping.
7. **Choose Enterprise when** any of these are required: a signed uptime SLA,
   dedicated or multi-region infrastructure, a static IP, a white-label
endpoint, custom data formats, a dedicated account manager, or a large chain
portfolio. If usage stays above 1 TB a month, we review the workload with
you rather than changing your plan automatically.

### Worked examples

The arithmetic is additive: plan price, plus each add-on, per month.

- Growth with two extra Core chains: $499 + (2 x $150) = **$799/mo**, covering 5 chains total.
- Starter with traces and state diffs on its one chain: $99 + $49 = **$148/mo**.
- Growth in a heavy backfill month, using a data extension: $499 + $99 = **$598/mo** for 650 GB that month, returning to $499 the next.
- Two chains: Starter cannot add a chain, so this is Growth at **$499/mo**, with one included chain to spare.

## FAQ

### How much does Portal cost?

Portal has two free plans (Public and Testing), then Starter at $99/mo and Growth at $499/mo, with custom Enterprise pricing. Paid plans have a flat monthly price, data extensions for months that need more, and no overage charges or hard cutoffs. Portal data access and Cloud compute are separate billing items. There are no compute units, credits, or egress fees.

### Is Portal billing live yet?

Not yet. We published the plans and the mechanics behind them ahead of launch so you can plan ahead. Until billing goes live, the Public Portal keeps its current limits, and paid plans are available today through early access. When billing starts, every account gets 14 days' notice.

### Is there a free plan for Portal?

Yes, two. Public needs no API key and is for exploration, prototyping and AI agents. Testing adds an API key, more backfill throughput and roughly 1 GB of monthly data on one selected chain. Both are for development and evaluation; commercial production use starts with Starter.

### What determines my price?

Your plan sets max backfill throughput, the monthly data allowance and the number of included chains. Starter is limited to one chain. Growth includes three and can add two more, priced by Partner, Core or Frontier tier. More than five chains requires Enterprise, which includes ten. Starter and Growth can add monthly data without changing plans. Latency is not a paid upgrade: where a chain has real-time data, every plan gets it.

### What counts as a chain?

A chain is one canonical ecosystem, like Ethereum, Base or Solana, not a single network or dataset. Its associated mainnets, testnets, dataset versions and data types count as one chain. Starter includes one chain with no additions. Growth includes three and has a maximum of five. Enterprise includes ten and has no maximum.

### Are there egress or data-transfer fees?

No. We do not charge separate egress or data-transfer fees on Portal or Cloud.

### Do I get an SLA?

Production uptime SLAs and a dedicated account manager come with Enterprise. Paid self-serve plans include email support on Starter and priority support on Growth, on a best-effort basis.

### Does Growth come with a free trial?

Yes. The 30-day trial uses the normal Growth limits: 400 GB of monthly data, max backfill throughput of 20 MB/s, and three selected chains. Enterprise trials are arranged with our sales team.

### What happens when I run out of monthly data?

Nothing shuts off. Real-time access continues on chains that have it, and backfill throughput is rate-limited for the rest of the month, resetting with the next one. To stay at full speed, add a data extension: 250 GB for $99 on Starter or Growth, or 600 GB for $199 on Growth. You add extensions yourself; nothing is charged automatically.

### When do I need Enterprise?

Enterprise is required above five chains. It is also designed for broad Frontier coverage, trace-heavy or specialized replica datasets, large historical backfills, dedicated capacity, signed SLAs, or custom support. If usage stays above 1 TB a month, we review the workload with you rather than changing your plan automatically. It includes ten chains and has no maximum; additional chain pricing is set in the contract.

### Can I change plans later?

Yes. Upgrade or downgrade as your backfill, data and chain needs change. Starter is the single-chain production plan, Growth supports up to five chains, and larger or operationally complex workloads move to Enterprise.
